Open Days
Our popular annual free fun event for families
Buzzworks run a number of Open Days at our Discovery Centre during the summer months. These are free to attend however, advance booking is required to guarantee entry. Bookings can be made via the What’s On Page. Refreshments are always available to purchase as well as a range of home made cakes and biscuits to try, and of course our Buzzworks Honey.

Activities for all the family
There are always a range of free activities for children and of course our experienced beekeepers are on hand to talk about the bees.
They will answer any questions you have, point out the queen in our observation hive and share tips on how to make your garden more bee friendly.

Have a go at making a wax candle
Try your hand at wax cup making & modelling
Visit the Beekeepers hut and chat to a beekeeper
Make bee friendly flowers or a bee collage
Get your hands messy making seed balls
Watch videos about bee lifecycle and pollination
Get up close to the live observation hive
See bees under a microscope
Get a bee themed face paint (chargeable)
Wander the bee friendly garden
Buy home made cakes and our Hitchin honey
You may even get to meet our live “bumble bee”
Directions to our Fun Day
Take the track at the side of the last house (number 178) on Old Hale Way, Hitchin, SG5 1XT. Follow the track past the allotments, and the Discovery Centre can be found at the end.
